We have a Hayward heat/chill that is new, we put our pool in last year and was not informed how to use the chill mode. We have no manual or any help from pool company. Our company that test the chemical do not know how. So help someone. The model is 31204T by Hayward. The display on front is bo or 6o I don’t know what that means.

Setting an HP31204T to Heat Mode
The purpose of this update is to inform you of the correct method for placing the HP31204T heat/cool heat pump into the heat, or automatic mode.
When the HP31204T is installed and powered up, you will need to check the setting of the “AUTO” mode.
To do this press and release the AUTO button. You should see something such as ACP on the display.
This is an indication of what mode the heat pump is in.

ACP indicates that the heat pump is in cool only mode and will not heat regardless of what temperature you have set the thermostat to.

To place the heat pump into AUTO mode which will allow the heat pump to heat OR cool the pool water depending on need,
• Press the AUTO button
• Use the up or down arrows to change the setting to AC3 – AC9. The number shown after AC indicates the differential between the heating set point and when the heat pump will begin to cool.

Example: If the heat pump is set to 80° and AC3 it will heat the water to 80° anytime the temperature of the pool water falls below 80 °. It will COOL the water to 80 ° if water temperature rises above 83°. This differential is there to keep the heat pump from constantly cycling between heat and cool. The differential can be set to 3, 5, 7, or 9 degrees. Three seems to be the preferred setting. You can also set the heat pump to HEAT only by setting the AUTO to AC0. This setting will not allow the heat pump to cool regardless of the water temperature
