ground wire for pool lights

I read that the connection where the extra green ground connects to the lug inside the niche is supposed to be covered with epoxy or something. If that ground connection isn't completely covered and gets wet, could it cause gfci to trip?

Is this a new light installation or has the light been working correctly with the GFCI?

Covering the lug connection is to protect it from corroding since it's exposed to pool water and likely has dissimilar metals in the connection.
