Generic MPV for Hayward S220T Filter

I purchased a generic brand MPV to replace mine that is 7 years old (the handle was hard to turn). Everything about the generic looks exactly the same, but it will not sit correctly. I have the tab lined up and it looks like it is stopping around the top o-ring. I didn't want to force it too much without knowing if this might be a common problem first. I have not tried to switch the o-ring with the old one...thought I'd ask first. Thanks in advance for your help!
