Fiberglass fibers in vacuum basket

Hello all,

I had previously been using a Hayward PoolVac suction cleaner and recently switched to the Aiper Seagull pro. It appears the pool was resurfaced with a fiberglass coating at some point.

I have only run the new pool cleaner three times so far, but I am getting some fiberglass fibers in the basket of the cleaner. It appears to be less with each cycle, but is this normal shedding of the shell or something to be concerned about?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi Mike and welcome to TFP! Can you tell us anything else about the pool (if you know it) such as its age, when it may have been resurfaced, etc. Might be good if you could share some pics of the pool shell and perhaps of the product your cleaner is collecting. At this point it would be advisable to post a full set of water test results as well to ensure chemistry isn't a factor in what's happening.

Based on any available info and pics, we'll put our heads together and see what we can come up with. :)

Thanks for the reply!

Original pool installation was 1984. The neighbors seem to think it was resurfaced somewhere around 2016, we moved here in 2021. I just threw out my water test results but all were normal and does continue to stay in the normal range as I have it tested weekly at a local pool supply store.

Pictures of the pool and what is coming out of the collector basket attached. Filter is a standard Hayward cartridge system using a Pellucid replacement cartridge filter which notes is made with a Trilobal filtration fabric. Great point bringing that to attention, had never thought of that being a possibility.
