I'll be draining my pool next week for tile cleaning and also due to "off the chart CYA". I'll have a few days to kill before I get started and was wondering if I could start the CYA dissolving process in a 5 gallon bucket 3-4 days before I'll be refilling the pool? Has anyone tried this with any success?

No need. Put it in a sock and drop in the skimmer basket with pump running. After an hour or so go out and squeeze it out.

I used a Rubbermaid storage tub knowing the 20lbs I needed in my new pool would take forever to dissolve in the cool water. After a couple days it did not noticeably dissolve and was as hard as cement.

It needs the running water from the return to help.

Attempt 2 was using a Tshirt instead of many socks and that worked great, it just took a day with cool water. There's no rush for the first day besides our impatience. :)
