Electrical Wire Question.

I know this question is better suited for an electrician's forum but I'm not a member to any of those, and it is regarding my pool light job I will be undertaking.
It is my understanding that you cannot run Romex in conduit; but you can run THHN wire in conduit. It is also my understanding that Romex is THHN wire just wrapped in the heavy jacket. I happen to have some 12/3 Romex laying around. Can I remove the individual wires from the heavy jacket and run the individual wires in conduit and stay within code? I only need a 2 or 3 foot run.

For outside you need to use THWN or dual rated THHN/THWN wire in conduit.

Got it. It's going to be outside. It sounds like in order to be safe I just buy some outdoor rated wire.

Typically romex is solid wire. You would use stranded wire in conduit.

The run is less than a foot. Pulling it through would not be a problem.

Either way - use the correctly rated wire for the installation.

The home centers will sell you any length you need. Use the correct wire. If there was ever a problem, or worse, your insurance company will look for any way not to pay the claim....
