Do I need VSRS on my pump?

My 2008 Intelliflow VS+VSRS pump was damaged by a lightning strike. Full description of my symptoms is here

I think the issue is the drive board, but I have no way to know till I try another drive board.

My replacement options are:
a) use drive unit from ebay without VSRS for $450
b) new drive unit off web for $1000+tax

Save your money and go without, just make sure the ebay unit has a good return policy in case it's a bust.

In most cases, a "SVRS" is not necessary. Do you have dual main/wall drains separated by at least 3'? If so, it really isn't necessary.
