Agreed, the wire mesh is basically a ladder. It would not pass muster here in Southern California. But then again codes here also do not let you get by with a removable safety fence either.
I am more than in compliance with my local regs. And before you pat yourself on the back too hard I should remind you that nearly any fence can be foiled. Mine can...and I am sure yours can too. The purpose of my fence is to allow me to directly monitor the pool from a larger are than would otherwise be possible, and to allow some additional security while the pool is covered and/or closed for the season. The safety cover is ALWAYS closed when the pool is not being directly monitored. I am very comfortable with my choices.
