DE Filter making gurgling noises while off

Good Morning!

I noticed that my DE filter was making gurgling noises and the water was moving around while it was off. Any troubleshooting ideas or suggestions? Googling didn’t really address a gargling coming from a filter.

I’m seeing an air leak as a potential culprit based on some other responses. For now should I keep the pump off?

Welcome to TFP.

I would run the pool normally and keep my eye out for any leaks or drips.

A leak on the pressure side after the pump will leak water when the pump is running or suck in air when the pump is off.

You may have a leaking O ring on a union or valve.

Listen closely and you may be able to hear air being sucked in when the pump is off. Another common culprit is a bad o-ring on the filter's air relief valve.

The filter air relief can let air in without letting water out. It would be the first thing I would check.

You can put your finger over the exit hole and see if you can feel some suction or can hear the noise stop.

Not sure where, but for sure you have a leak that is letting air get into the filter. The gargling you hear is the filter draining back into the pool.
