CYA/Stabilizer levels

Hi all,

Quick question on CYA/Stabalizer... other than adding chlorine tabs, or CYA, what can increase these levels? This past summer my level was around 40 or 50. Somehow, since then it has slowly crept up to around 80 or 90.
All I add to the pool is liquid chlorine and muriatic acid.

Thanks,
Patrick

Your signature says Pool Master Basic 5-Way Test Kit. Tests for Chlorine, Bromine, pH, Acid Demand, and Total Alkalinity

How are you testing CYA level?

CYA can only get in your pool if you add it. Either directly or as part of the chlorine tabs. I also suspect your testing is the issue. I suggest you get a Taylor pool test kit like the tf-100 which most in this forum use.

I take samples to a couple of different pool stores near me (Leslie's and Pinch a Penny)

That accounts for why you got a diversity of readings and why we recommend testing with your own test kit.

Pool store testing has never been found to be accurate and repeatable.

You can add the CYA test to your 5-way test - Cyanuric Acid (CYA) Test Kit

Or get the Taylor K-2006C or TFT Test Kits
