CYA recommendations

For a SWG system, TFP recommends a CYA level of 70-80 PPM. I just installed an IC60 and noticed that the Pentair manual recommends CYA of 30 to 50 PPM. I will follow the TFP recommendation and shoot for a CYA of 75. TFP has never let me down on any type of recommendation so it is a no-brainer. I am just curious though, why the big difference in CYA recommendations from Pentair and TFP?

Pentair uses the standard chemistry that has been used by the pool industry for years. They do not recognize the FC/CYA ratio.

For fun, read through Pool Chemistry thread in Deep End forum.

You can’t measure a CYA of 75 since the scale is logarithmic, not linear. You can’t eyeball values between the lines. We round up so if the dot disappears between 80 and 70 you call it 80. I suggest you target 70.
