Hi all,
Our pool is crystal clear - ph 7.4, FC 9, CC 0, alkalinity 80. The CYA is 200ish! We have slowly drained a few inches each day and added more water. We were using the tablets and probably too many. Now we put 5 tablets in the chlorinator for the week (38,000gallon pool) and adjust/slam with liquid chlorine (10% bleach). Should we just continue to do drain each day or just kind of wait it out (have a few days of rain coming up)? Just continue to keep our FC up to compensate the high CYA? Thanks!

Do you know how to do a dilution test for CYA? What test kit do you use?
Draining a few inches at a time will take a very long time to reduce CYA. Assuming your CYA is 200, it will require a 75% drain or more to lower CYA to 50ish. Adding 5 tablets a week is also increasing your CYA so your mini drains are basically offset by the tablet use.
Can you switch to LC only? Stop using tablets. Drain at least 75% of the pool.

Five 1/2 lb Trichlor tablets add 7.2ppm FC and 4 ppm CYA to your pool every week.

You need to get off this cycle of adding CYA and draining by installing a SWG.

Draining a few inches and adding water is very inefficient and will take forever to lower your CYA.

Get your CYA down to 30 if you stay with Trichlor or about 60-70 if you will switch to a SWG.

Thanks for your help! What swg do you recommend? My pool is around 38,000 gallons?

Tell us what pool equipment you have by creating your signature with details of your pool and equipment.

We recommend a SWG be around 2X your pool capacity. The Pentair IntelliChlor IC60 or the Circupool RJ60+ are good for a pool your size.
