Hey everyone, now before you go in on me let me promise you if this doesn’t work I promise to do it right!
I recently acquired a Perflex EC40 filter from marketplace. I figured it would be awesome for our 18’ Intex. Well upon further inspection I found the tube sheets (both top and bottom) were cracked right where the rod pokes through. I assume this is the common place these fail after years of bumping. My question, since the pressure in these filters shouldn’t go over 20(ish)PSI, and the bumping could be done carefully or just not at all (change the powder and clean internally every time), what are the chances this repair could work using JB water weld epoxy putty? Have any of you tried this with yours?

The biggest challenge is that with those tiny spider cracks the way they are, there's no way to actually get epoxy into the cracks themselves. You certainly have the surface area filled-in, so we'll see. Worth a shot I suppose.

I’m praying! My thought process is if DE is leaking it’ll leak from the bottom sheet, and the top sheet is primary there as a structural element to hold the tubes and add strength when bumping. Also I noticed the top side of the bottom sheet only had cracks around the bump rod and four of those spider cracks so I focused on that area the most.

I know dry DE is bad, is there any health risks associated with wet DE that makes it’s way into the pool should it leak through at some point? The better half read the box, saw “Cancer” and is freaking that this isn’t safe 🙄

Just an update for those in the future, JB weld is holding solid! Pump is running flawlessly at 10psi, no DE found yet! I’ll update again in a month or so, but definitely an easy bandaid if you can’t get the part right away
