There seems to be this tiny gap where the center pipe meets the black part. Do I need to glue that or something? The big arrow is pointing to a spot that looks like it may have been glued by previous owner.

I’ve noticed a little dirt or sand in the pool but nothing huge to note .

@1poolman1 may confirm. I believe the center stand pipe is just tightly pressed in with no glue required. That way you can remove it later if you had to replace the entire lateral assembly. You see a gap at the top where the pipe goes in, but it should be tight inside.

Those are glued assemblies. Not likely any sand can get through that gap, its smaller than the slots in a lateral. If concerned, add a bit of PVC glue over the gap.
