Hello, happy summer!
Does anyone have experience (yay or nay) with this brand of variable speed pump?
Also, if I'm replacing a 1 HP Superpump with a variable speed (any brand)

The calimar 3hp sister pump is $519 at pool supply unlimited.

I'd say Yay. The energy savings will pay for itself in two(?) Seasons. If it dies after that, it didn't cost you anything. It will likely last just as long as the flagship brand pumps.

No. But. A variable speed pump is really a variable HP pump and you can dial it down to whatever you need.
