I have to install one of these for my heat pump My questions are..

Do these wear out and should I use threaded fittings or its fine to just glue it in?

I have shut off valves at the In and Out of my heater. If I shut both valves is it fine for the full force of my pump to run through the Bypass Check Valve (5lb)?
 
It is possible for check valves to go bad if the spring breaks, but its not a common problem. Usually some debris will get caught and cause the valve to stick, but you should be able to remove the cover and clear the debris. Some check valves are not serviceable. Which one do you plan to use?
