Bond beam vs coping

Do you have any details on the decking installation to be done? You mentioned pavers similar to the coping? Will the pavers be set tightly together or do you plan to use have sanded joints?

Around these parts, most decking companies will do pavers set on a sand base. That’s usually sufficient but some people go with the extra cost and do a concrete base with sand so that the pavers stay level for a long time (it also tends to reduce weed growth at the paver joints). You’ll definitely want your decking sub to come out and look at this to talk over options. I wouldn’t install the coping until you have a solid plan in place for the grading and fill beneath the deck.

Knowing the size of coping prior to Shotcrete, a BB notch could have been engineered onto the backside of the beam.
I personally do not see this notch used often due to the type of coping on most jobs (poured in place).
Good to know, I will get all the details worked out before shotcrete. Thanks
