Ive seen others ask about this situation. After a heavy rain draining a pool. What if your out of town for a few weeks and a heavy rain occurs. Or several heavy rains. How about putting a sump pump or some type of plug in drain pump in the pool and connecting it to an ALEXA automated plug? If/when it rains turn on the automated plug and now you remotely draining the pool. What do ya'll think?

First of all, a sump pump sitting on the surface of a pool for an extended period can stain the surface.

Secondly, the pump can act as a siphon and drain water even with the pump off.

Third, if you get the pump running how will you know when to turn it off? And what do you do if the pump off command fails for whatever reason and the pump keep running.

Overall, it is fraught with problems and failure modes.
