Algae in otherwise chemically "balanced" pool (TA is off the chart)

Re: Algae in otherwise chemically "balanced" pool (TA is off the chart)

Does the black dot disappear midway between 40 and 50? If so, use a CYA of 50 as the scale is not linear as you can tell from the gradations on the vial. Don't add more CYA now.

Use the non-SWG shock level for your slam so if CYA is 50, shock at 20FC.

Also, most people just turn of their SWG during a slam.

Question already.

Checked the CYA shock chart to find out what my shock FC should be, and for my SWG it says to have a CYA of 60-80. My CYA is at 40 (45 at best). Do I have to adjust the CYA before I SLAM?

pH just registered 7.2 so otherwise I'm ready to go.

I'd turn off SWG for SLAM and use Non-SWG part of the chart to determine your shock level. If you're reading 45 then you should use line for 50 ppm- FC=20 as your shock level. Do not add CYA yet, it saves on chlorine during SLAM. Please make sure your pump/filter are still running 24/7 even with SWG off.
