Adding SWG CircuPool EDGE-40

Hi, I decided to switch to the Salt Chlorine Generator system, based on my search here I realized CircuPool is very famous especially the RJ model because of the warranty and easy installation( I plan to install it myself)

Right now the EDGE-40 is $1199 which is $300 cheaper than RJ45, Is there a big difference between them?

There is also CaliMar CMARSHA40-3Y which is half the price, anyone has any good or bad experience with it?

Thank you

I have the RJ Series and I'm happy with it so far. I've only had it installed for about a year so I can't really comment on longevity. The RJ45 does produce more chlorine than the Edge (2 vs. 1.7 lbs per day).

@bowenpan recently purchased the Calimar unit. I don't think he has installed it yet. Here is the thread;

I recently installed a Universal 40 and like it so far. What size is your pool? From the discountsaltpool website, it appears the only difference is the warranty and salt cell replacement cost, meaning the RJ probably has a slightly better quality plating material and / or more plating material (that's what usually determines the life of the cell). I am running mine at 10% and it consistently keeps my FC at 5 ppm or greater.

I have the Edge 40 and have been happy. It’s compact and the power supply has no moving parts and stays cool.
My pool is 22000 and it more then keeps up, now I am at 30% power and running it around 8 hours a day and last check my FC was 10. Should drop some as the water gets warmer but my 3rd season and still happy

Thank you for the great information, what speed do you run your pump during those 8 hours?

thank you, my pool size is 20000 Gal, you said you are running it consistently, do you mean it is on and working 24/7?

I run mine 23 hrs at low RPM (1200 ish) with a 1 hour high speed run for skimming. I leave my SWCG running at 10% that entire time. Currently my CYA is a little low (40) but I am working on bringing it up. I consistently have 5 ppm FC and no algae.

BTW the other thing that effects cell life is percentage used. Think of it as a big box of chlorine. you can either feed in a little at a time for a Reaalllly long time (i.e. 10% setting for 6-7 years) or a lot for a short time (i.e. 100% for 2 years) Your going to get the same amount of chlorine out either way.
