Adding salt via inline chlorinator

Hey, Rob, welcome to TFP!

This is a very old thread and your question is slightly off the original topic. To answer your question, you will never want to put anything in the in-line chlorinator other than Trichlor. Mixing chemicals will cause the in-line to explode violently and without prejudice.

Adding salt to your pool will not create chlorine without what's called a salt water chlorine generator (SWCG). An SWCG takes the NaCL in the water and creates chlorine from that. Adding salt to your pool without an SWCG will just make your water feel silkier.

Welcome back to the BBB method. Some things may have changed since you were last around. I HIGHLY recommend taking a read of the Pool School section here. Bleach, Borax, and Baking Soda will get your pool perfect, but take a moment to reacquaint yourself with testing and procedures.

What about adding salt through an in-line chlorinator? After battling high CYA, I do not plant to use it for tabs anymore. Draining the pool now. Going back with the BBB pool treatment.

Moved from here.
Besides the fact that you need a SWG for the salt to accomplish anything and that adding anything other that tablets to a used inline chlorinator is just plain dangerous, it would take days/weeks with constant refilling to get all the salt needed to dissolve in a feeder like that.

You could replace the in-line chlorinator with a salt chlorine generator. As far as the salt, you'd add that all at once into the pool up to the salinity required for your generator.
