How important is CYA for an indoor spa, since there won't be loss of chlorine due to sun exposure? What if the hot tub is kept covered most of the time when not in use?
CYA is used at low levels indoors for a completely different reason that it is used outdoors.
Indoors the crucial reason is that having zero CYA leaves the chlorine being fairly harsh. It can damage swimsuits and it also produces more disinfection byproducts than it does when you add CYA. CYA removes the harshness and lowers the occurrence of bad side effects (when used in moderation).
