Best cover for above ground pool - 18 Round - Suggestions please.

Well, this turns out to be a useful tip, sort of in reverse -- the replacement black straps for this pool cover are available for $8.99 at intheswim (for example) -- not a bad price for anyone (like me) who has an alternate use in mind for these straps. Thanks! Also, I guess we should inform our hardware store that they are selling junk -- maybe they'll actually want to stock a better product in the future.

Got new bungee cords put filter and pump away. Also covered ladder with tarp on side of house. All set for spring baby. Can't wait to open her up clean and clear.

Also got a pump from amazon so I could drain to street. Set it 6 inches or so below the return.

Can anyone recommend a supplier for the ultimate cover?
I'm in upstate NY. My cover billows quite abit with the wind I'm looking for a solution to that

Have you tried keeping a few inches of water on the cover to hold it down?

I've used a 'Heavy Duty' cover I bought from Ocean State Job Lot for the past two winters, and will use it again this winter. For $44 dollars I figure I already got my money's worth.

Thank you Linda I'm looking today.
My biggest problem is with the cover blowing up at 1 end because of the wind. Do you have any experience with the cover and wind?

I have a 4 foot wide deck completely around the pool. We drilled holes in the end of the deck boards and pulled the straps over the deck board and the hook into the hole. No problem with wind at all doing it this way.

I have a Doughboy 18 X 34. We are in Minnesota. I use a micro-mesh cover. with a net leaf catcher cover over that. The covers are secured with the perimeter cables and water filled jugs about every 10 feet. I tried solid covers but the mesh seem to work the best. I have been buying most everything from INTHESWIM.COM for a long time.

We just had a Matrix pool installed this spring and wondered how the secure the cover, the pool being mostly resin. Our old pool had metal rails and we used the clips and plastic wrap. The swingset anchors look to be perfect for the resin rail Matrix!

I drain my pool 6 inches below the return. The first two winters I used a solid cover with a pillow in the middle. Next two winters I used the solid cover and no pillow. Each year we had to use a hose to siphon the water off as snow melted. Last year I bought the ultimate winter cover with the mesh strip down the middle. We have a 4ft wide walk around deck, so we drilled holes in the ends of the deck boards and hooked the straps that way. It worked very well. We did not have to worry about water on the cover. A bonus was that by spring, the water level was up to the bottom of the skimmer and we didn't need to add much water to get the pump going in the spring.

Hello,

I know this is an old post and you may not be active anymore. My fingers are crossed!

I bought the cover you mentioned because after one winter dealing with the traditional pool cover I knew there must be a better way. Your photo makes it all look so tidy and way less depressing than what mine looked like all last winter.

QUESTION: Do you use that flat cover on the opening of the skimmer to prevent water from getting into the skimmer and freezing if the rain/snow fills the pool up over winter? Even if I drain my pool 6” below the return, there’s still a chance we could get more precipitation than that in my area over that amount of time.
(I know this is an old post and you may not be active anymore. My fingers are crossed!)

Thank you!
