Pipe should i see cement or sealer

Hi Guys,

Basic question I think but I am not sure of the difference.
I had to replace a ball valve and now when I turn on the pump the pressure in the pipe by the ball valve causes the pipe to seperate and spew water.
Question. Do I need pipe sealer or the cement ?

If it's a slip joint (which I'm pretty sure that it is) you need cement. Sealant is for threaded connections.

Its threaded . Thank you Sir. How do should I wait before starting the pump ?

Threaded use teflon tape or pvc rated "pipe dope". Its an instant fix once your screwed in your good to go

It's very odd for a threaded connection to separate even without the sealant on it.

It sounds like the pipe might be cracked. Can you post a picture?
