    Clean salt cell

    Hi everyone,
My salt cell is due for cleaning and I've found a youtube clip on how to remove and clean.
My question is - what acid do I use to clean it out?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Clean salt cell

Use muriatic acid 31.45% strength. You will want to use 1 part acid to 4 parts water, add the acid to the water, not water to the acid. If it is cleaning the cell, there should be some bubbling when this mixture is added to the cell.

    I used CLR. Worked great.

Which is better - muriatic acid 31.45% or CLR?

If you have the acid on hand..use it. CLR is a little safer to handle. We have hard water here..very hard...i've cleaned my salt cell twice in 3 months. The clr takes about 5 minutes once you soak the cell....will bubble nicely. Rinse with low pressure garden hose.

They should both work fine to clean a cell. The acid should be cheaper, but it has to be handle a little more carefully. I use the acid to lower the pH in my pool weekly and I don't have too many concerns handling it.
