I asked about using an extension cord with the M4 in another thread. Bought the Supreme M4. Right in the 'helpful hints' supplement reads: Do not use an extension (cable) in any case whatsoever:
There is no reason whatsoever that your robot won't work on a proper extension cord. Using a cord opens up a lot of possibilities like now the longer cord allows the power supply to reach the water, someone could use an ungrounded extension cord, the additional length could allow you to plug into outlets further from the pool which may not be ground fault protected and so on. The best way for a manufacturer to protect themselves is to say don't use extension cords whatsoever. If you are the kind of guy who doesn't remove the "Do not remove under penalty of law" labels from pillows you may want to return the robot. Otherwise just use sound judgement.
Also the helpful hints you posted a pic of is not specific to the M4. It comes with all Dolphin robots.
