Borates

I went with the borates a few weeks ago. Went by the book and pool calculator for amount of borax and acid. The water looks n feels great by the way. Only problem is my eyes are getting irritated after being in the pool for a few hours. I have the test strips but not very accurate, the color indicates somewhere over 80, maybe 100. Since it only goes up to 100 it could be higher.

Could to high amount of borates irritate or do damage to your eyes? Should I but a better test kit?

Edit......over 50 but closer to 80.

I doubt it but would wait on a stronger response.

As noted in Are Borates Safe to Use?, boric acid is often used in eye wash solutions at 1-2% (1750 - 3500 ppm) so should not be irritating to the eye in pools.
