6000x installed question on pool wall

So I just installed the steps. (Confer 6000x) The brace on the back is contacting the pool wall
They provide these rubber pads for the brace.
Is this going to cause problems up against the wall?

I have the same ladder off my deck. I didn't put the back piece on. Its to prevent entrapment and I noticed it wasn't going to prevent much and only rub against my wall causing the liner to wear down. My kids would just push the back piece out of the way to get behind the ladder during Marco Polo. The ladder sank fine without it. I put a large liner pad under the bottom step.
