That depends very much on the exact situation of your pool wall and adjoining deck. To install a niche you need access to both sides of the wall. That usually means breaking out the deck in that area, which gets expensive and rarely looks as good as it did originally once put back together. If you don't have a deck in the way, or the deck is very narrow in that area and can be tunneled under it isn't nearly as bad.
