Spa cover options necessary?

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions regarding an upcoming order I am about to place for a spa cover. We have a Jacuzzi model 1508 outside our cabin in Tahoe, and it gets exposed to some pretty severe winter weather.

I'm wondering a few things. First, the thickness...our current cover is a 4" one with 2.0# foam but I'm wondering whether we should invest in the 6" tapered cover with the same foam density.

Also, does anyone have any opinion on options like an insulated hinge seal (adds a small piece of insulation across the cover fold), or extra thick vapor barriers? For reference, I'm looking here http://www.hottubcoverdepot.com/buy-spa-cover/?meas_a=89&meas_b=89&shape=square Will these sorts of upgrades make a difference?

Just my opinion, but I think you will sell a marginal increase in energy savings between 4 and 6 inches of insulation. Keep in mind the tub is also losing heat through the sides which don't change in insulation value. So it's kinda like preparing for winter temps and just focusing on how great your hat is insulated. I do think there is some merit in the insulation over the cover fold as I do notice that is that last are to acquire snow on my own cover. Now you mentioned you are worried about the severe winter weather, if you are worried about the weight of the actual snow on the cover doing damage then I would look into http://www.belitealuminumspacovers.com/ those covers are tough enough to walk on.
