Eye irritation and pH level

Low PH has much more of an effect on your eyes than high PH. Most people feel some eye irritation below 7.2, though a few people start to notice problems at 7.2 or even just slightly higher (quite rare however). On the high end you can go up quite a bit over 7.8 before you notice anything.

See this post for more details about studies on eye irritation and pH. Chloramines were much more irritating than a pH what was off unless it was WAY off (outside 7 to 9). The salt level also had a lot to do with preventing irritation (human tears have around 9000 ppm salt). Nevertheless, we occasionally get some reports as Jason noted where it seems that being too low in pH is more noticeable than too high (relative to 7.5).
