All,

We’ve had our pool gunite’d for about 2 to 2 1/2 months and our tile set for about 1 1/2 months. We have 12x24 5cm thick black basalt coping tiles around our pool and roughly 27 out of the 94 we have have some form of cracking (small, medium and full cracked tiles). They aren’t located in one area, they encompass the entire pool and gazebo pad area (gazebo pad has a 12x15 foot concrete pad with ~ 32 tiles on 4 sides. These tiles weight close to 75 pounds a piece and could probably hold several hundred pounds (if they were only supported on 2 sides and someone stepped in the middle of them).

Anyone have any clue what’s going on here???

Did they over dig the pool? If so how did the add back dirt and compact it?
I’m not sure what over digging the pool would entail. They did backfill the pool on all 4 sides. When they sprayed gunite the top of the bond beam was maybe 2 feet above the surrounding dirt around most of the pool. We have concrete poured steps on one side of the pool, a trek deck on another, fake turf that buts up to another side and landscaping/plants on another. The cracking isn’t favoring one side, it’s on all 4 sides and even our concrete pad where the tiles are set in a bed of mortar on a concrete lip.

It almost sounds like the concrete underneath has cracked and the crack is radiating through the stones.

Are the two that are cracked on the gazebo adjacent? Are there any cracks in the deck or waterline tile area that correspond with the cracked stones?
