What does "aerate to increase pH"

I recently replaced about 40% of my water and new results show my TA is 100.

According to PoolMath, I need to lower my TA by decreasing pH 7.0-7.2 with acid, and then aerate to increase pH.

    How do I "aerate"?

    Thanks

Do you have a return side sprinkler or fountain that you attach to your water return port?

I ended up making one out of 1.5" PVC that I drilled small holes in.

Any water feature will aerate your water or you can point your returns up so they move the surface of the water.

What is your PH now? You may not need to lower your TA if your PH is stable.

I don't believe my returns moveable.

    What is a water feature?

Any type of water falling into your pool that makes the water move.

A water feature can be a slide that has water running down it, and falling into the pool, a fountain, waterfall... anything that disturbs the surface of the water, and creates bubbles will work.

i don't have anything like that. I'm pretty good at making stuff though.

Not that Ive looked real close, but I don't recall the return jets lending themselves to having something attached to them.

Re: What does "aerate to increase pH"

If your PH is stable, I wouldn't worry about TA at this point. If your PH starts climbing consistantly, the you might want to tackle lowering the TA.

Just restested my water and pH is up from 7.6 to 7.7 and TA up from 100 to 130. . We have had 1.5 inches of rain overnight ( I estimate that to be about 240 gallons of rainfall added to my pool)

    Complete test:
    FC- 1.6
    CC-0.4
    pH- 7.7
    TA-130
    CH-210

Ok, I understand now. I will construct something out of PVC.

You can also just point the returns toward the surface. It just takes a little longer.

How or why does aerating raise pH.

Re: What does "aerate to increase pH"

The out gassing of carbon dioxide from the water raises PH.

what does out gassing mean? And/or how did CO2 get into the water?

Outgas is when gas moves out of a substance, like water. Carbon dioxide dissolves from the atmosphere into the surface of the water.
