I'm having a hard time deciding at what point in time I have to drain off some water after a heavy rain. I've heard running the filter with too high of a level is not good. But how do know what point is too high?
The problem with too much water is that the skimmer can become ineffective because the water enters more slowly. There should be a small arrow on the skimmer plate to indicate the optimum water level.
If there is no arrow, about 1/2 way up the skimmer plate tends to work well, when you can see the weir door bobbing back and forth and the surface water wanting to skim into into the skimmer is a good indication of proper water levels.
When mine is too high, I take the advantage of either going a thorough vacuum to waste, or a good backwash of the filter, it will usually bring me back down to optimum levels.
I've had to drain the water level 3 times in 6 weeks, I cannot believe the amount of rain! I just get my CYA back up and the stupid water level rose 4 inches last night. :grrrr:
