Is the sand you buy from a lumber shed (play sand) the same thing as the sand you purchase from the pool store?? Is it ok to use??

No it is not. Pool sand is of a uniform size. Playground sand will slip through the grating in your laterals and end up in your pool.

You want #20 silica pool filter sand.

But you don't HAVE to go to the pool $tore to get it. It can be purchased at places like Home Depot or Lowes. Just make sure it's not play sand.
