Daily and Weekly Pool Maintenance

Is it better to brush or vacuum a pool once a week? Also how often should i keep the filter/pump running, non stop?

I usually run my filter about 8 hours on low (I have a 2 speed motor). Before I got my timmer, I would run about 3-5 hours on high. I only bush if there are little spots of green on the bottom. As long as the pool gets used and I stay on top of the chlorine, there is usually enough feet action to not require any brushing. Every pool will be different though.

Edit to add:
I usually have to vacuum about every week or so. Especially after cutting the lawn.
