It really varies for every pool based on many different factors, one of the most important being surface debris removal to the skimmer(s). You might like to read the TFP Pool School - Determine Pump Run Time page. When at a total loss of where to start, run the pump for about 8 hours and then adjust from there based on your pool's response and cleanliness.
