The MTA/male pvc fitting on the pool filter head broke flush with the filter intake. It was glued and I need to remove this glued, threaded pvc fitting without damaging the filter head. Any Advise!
Probably that's threaded and not glued in, except maybe with hardened teflon paste. That broken piece looks like a threaded adaptor.
Get a chisel or a trowel or some other piece of thin hard metal and heat it up and push it into the pipe section so you've got a bite. Then try turning it with a crescent wrench and see if it will unscrew.
The other option is to get an oversize coupling and a reducer and glue the coupling to the outside of the valve. Usually they're dual-sized; 1.5 pipe internally, 2" pipe externally.
