Houston, Texas; Is it safe to lower water level for winter?

I always heard it was bad, in my region of Texas, to lower water level very much in my plaster pool. Is this true? Thanks.

If it is uncovered, then yes the sunlight could degrade the plaster that is above the water line. If you are going to lower it, cover with a pool cover or tarp would be a good idea.

I do not live in your region or have a plaster pool, but maybe other experts can chime in.
