SLAM Process - Chlorine Staying High

We live in SE Oklahoma. We maintain our pool until October when it is too cold to swim, and we open it early before the pool is warm enough to swim in. We cover it with a safety cover. Late April or the first two weeks of May, we uncover it, and it is never green. SLAM is very quick. Maybe a day...

    Time to switch to SWG?

My thoughts - more of a convenience factor...but will save fuel. * 30 miles one way to get the maximum limit of 5 gallons of liquid chlorine. * Drive to a different town/store to get an additional 5 gallons. * 110 miles round trip to both stores takes 2 hours. Every 10-14 days. * We only shop...

Tips needed! Struggling with removing, cleaning, drying, and folding up the pool's safety cover.

Removing, cleaning, drying, and folding up the oversized safety cover by myself is kicking my rear. Usually, part of it falls into the pool while I am trying to remove it. My deck is not as large as the cover so I have to fold it and clean parts of it at a time. Same thing with drying it. Any...

Major leak. Bottom drain or skimmer/main valve

It is a mess, isn't it? Only 1 side of the pool is underground. 3 sides are covered with rock wall. If we can save it, we would be happy. The pool is unique in that there is no problem with it floating up when empty. (according to the only pool company within an hour of our home. They have...

Major leak. Bottom drain or skimmer/main valve

I noticed that the skimmer/main valve is dripping every second. I uncovered the pool today, and there is only 8 inches of water left in the 3 ft shallow ends. Our pool starts at 3 ft on each end and goes to 6 ft deep in the center. Concrete bottom and metal panels on the walls. Picture was taken...

    Well she's open!

I had to replace PVC, too. My "professional" plumber used the wrong pvc. He did not use pipes/connections that could handle pressure. We have had a slight leak for years, but can't find it. Since it is a small leak, we are not paying "leak detectors" to tell us "yep, you have a leak." I am...

The cover is off, last year was my first year

Can't you just add the sand, then stick a hose in the filter to clean it? Maybe it doesn't clean the sand that well? I put new sand in a kiddie pool and top it with water to clean it. Then I put it in the filter and flush it again with the hose. Question about the anti freeze. I have never...

Pools and pets don't always mix, dog hair in pool, and a dog ramp to get out of the pool?

I couldn't decide where to post this, but I decided to post in the Newby section because it is sort of related to pool chemicals. I hope it is okay to post here where more people might read it. I wish there was a sticky titled "Pets and Pools" with more information than I know. Please remember...

Worry about dog hair in filter?

My response is unusual because it won't help you once you get hair in your pool. You could buy a high velocity dog hair dryer. It is excellent for blowing out shedding hair. If you use it in the yard, the hair will go into your pool, so blow out the coat in the bathroom so you can contain the...
