    Tropical storm(so much water)

I drained the pool down to the bottom of the tile line yesterday before the storm. It was up to the deck by 6pm today. I drained it back down to the bottom of the tile line again tonight. They are estimating more rain tomorrow than today. Overall I'm estimating I have taken over a foot of...

    CL Heliocol DIY install(solar)

Finally finished it today. Just have to reprogram the pump for higher speeds now to prime the panels. I ended up just running a new 20amp/120 for the solar controller. Before I was trying to tie it into the salt generator that's on the timer. Then I realized I don't really care if the solar...

Oopps Make sure to check your 120/240 This is what happens when you hook up 240 to the 120 by accident. Oh well. Amazon is running a killer deal on the Hayward aq-sol-Lv-TC right now if anyone needs one. Usually $350 on sale for $130 right now. So at least I don't feel like a complete...

Finished up the plumbing today. I was moving hot water to the pool before I found 2 small leaks on 2 joints after about 10 mins of run time. Anyways to repair them without cutting them out? System is going to sit for about 4 days without any time to work on it. Hooking up the controller...

Crisis averted. The inner swing blocker wasn't seating properly. Not sure why, but once I hollowed it out a bit with a file it sat in place and diverts the water properly now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    CL Heliocol DIY install(solar)

Ok I'm doing something wrong. Added some more vertical pipe and tried the 3 way valve again. No matter how I turn the valve the water comes out the left vertical pipe heavily. I even turned it to cover the vertical pipe and then I unscrewed everything. The blocker is there but when the water...

    CL Heliocol DIY install(solar)

Man, I have discovered I am terrible at plumbing. Here is a start though. Once I started, I decided it would be easier just to cross the pipes here rather than at the roof line. It's a start Oh by the way. Don't test your plumbing with the 3 way installed this way. It doesn't fully seal...

    CL Heliocol DIY install(solar)

Got the bottom clamps on today. My original plan for piping was Besides esthetics Does anyone see a reason why I can't just take the hot return directly over the roof ridge rather than running it down near the cold supply? PS: my son need to clean his toys up but look at that water...

    CL Heliocol DIY install(solar)

Haha yep. Messed up the spacing. My ADD brain got in the way. Should be fine though, still managed 2 clamps per panel. Your right. Because of the rafters I had to forgo the slope. Being in a hurricane area these things had to be secured to the rafters. I guess I couldve added some more...

Thanks. I used it. Pretty sure this stuff will protect leaks just fine. It says on the bottle it is fine for dealing cracks and holes, flexible rubber sealant. 30 year warranty. Anyways. Couple issues I had. My roof rafters are a little strange. They run parallel to the back of the house...

I know there is debate about where to put the vacuum break... In the Heliocol install manual it is actually positioned near the pool equipment. I am going to install it on the roof on the panels though. That's where it makes most sense to me anyways. Just FYI. Oh p.s. Parts ordered...

Thats what I was thinking as well. Just run it in single speed march-nov. Based on everything ive read the automated solar valve is a must to maximize the efficiency of the panels.

    CL Heliocol DIY install(solar)

I think thats the plan for now. 4 panels and see what happens. I wasnt going to use a controller because i would have to use my VSP as a single speed because it can not be controlled by a solar controller. If anyone has any creative ideas to get around that issue im all ears. Otherwise...

I was finally able to measure today. I can fit 4 panels on the south facing roof. According to my builders specs the pool square footage is 393 of unscreened pool 4 panels gives me 192 sq ft. I could mount 3 additional panels on an east facing roof. Opinions??? Sent from my iPhone using...

    Do you use your sunshelf?

As you can see in the picture ours goes into the swimming area quite a bit. The only thing I would have changed would have been to pull the shelf out of the swimming area a bit more. Created a more drastic curve there and brought the shelf further into the deck area. Does that make sense...

Ok it looks like I am going to order new seals and transition to the gators clips. Another $300 but still a great deal for a helicolo system. Here are the two mounting options. Based on reading the install manuals they suggest having the hot return as short as possible. How big of an issue...

Yea I was disappointed to see that and do t plan on using any when I mount them. Im afraid I will have to do this as well. It's going to double the cost of the install. I have 2 12' strips. I am mounting to an asphalt shingle roof. Not too steep. Normal single story home. I think I will do...
