Gulf Coast "winters" with saltwater pool

Deep south saltwater pool. Random winter weather swings. Do you run your saltwater generator all winter? If so, lower chlorine output? I have a 20x40 pool and a variable speed pump that I typically leave running 24x7. Wondering if I should drop the output, drop the run time or both...

Thinking about adding borates and have a couple of questions

I run my VSP 24x7. SWG kicks in at a certain flow rate, which equates to approx 18 hrs/day.

Thinking about adding borates and have a couple of questions

33K gallon SWG pool. Considering adding borates as an extra algae buffer. I test my water about weekly, but sometimes life happens and we forget, lose power, etc and the dreaded bloom occurs. Seems to happen once or twice annually (very early spring is always prime time, or inevitably we...

    Leak somewhere in the plumbing?

This turned out to be the source of the leak.

    Leak somewhere in the plumbing?

Found A leak (not sure if it is THE leak) however it's leaking behind the light at the grounding screw and cord hole. I tested this prior however I didn't get the dye close enough to the hole to see it get sucked in. Apparently the dye test only works if you get it right on the hole. Anyway I...

    Leak somewhere in the plumbing?

So did another test and it appears it's leaking with the pump off as well. I think it rained during my previous test and skewed my results. So appears next step is to plug all returns, skimmer and drain holes. What does one normally use to plug these? I can buy the threaded plugs for the...

    Yes, several times.

    Leak somewhere in the plumbing?

Posted this in another forum but this seems to be the right place for it. 20x40 in-ground pool. I'm losing 1" a day. Bucket test tells me the leak is outside the pool as it only seems to lose water when the pump is running. It's not the discharge line. No wet spots I can see anywhere. I'm...

Pool leak, inch of water loss per day

No issue maintaining pump prime. I found a DIY pressure tester kit on Amazon, has pretty good reviews. It's $219 and it looks like about $25 worth of parts, works with a standard air compressor.

Pool leak, inch of water loss per day

Been chasing a leak. Realized it after regular salt and CYA loss. I know it isn't leaking out of the discharge/backwash port or any of the above ground plumbing/filter/pump. It also seems to only be when pump is running as I pass the bucket test with the pump off. I assume it's underground...

    Algae hide outs

Found algae behind pool light during SLAM. Also under the ladder steps. Is there any way to fill the void behind the light to keep algae from hiding here? If I had my way I'd have no pool light or ladder.

Variable speed pump won’t turn itself on after power blip

Do you have experience with this particular model?

Variable speed pump won’t turn itself on after power blip

Thought about that, and turned off by the cost. I have heard about devices that have timers built in, and will hold a circuit closed for a pre-determined length of time to protect equipment before opening the circuit back up. This may be my answer. The pump turns itself back on if the power...

Variable speed pump won’t turn itself on after power blip

I just learned this alert only works when power is off for 2 seconds or longer.

Variable speed pump won’t turn itself on after power blip

I think you're right. The bad thing is the mfg can't tell me what the error codes represent, and I can't find a logical work around. Seeing from other threads this problem isn't isolated to my Harris pump - apparently Hayward VS owners have experienced the same. BTW, Doheny sells this pump...

Variable speed pump won’t turn itself on after power blip

Here's one thing I just noticed. If I turn off the breaker off for about 30 seconds, and back on, the pump turns itself back on. However if I throw the breaker of and on quickly, it doesn't come back on and throws the error code/alarm.

This is the deep end. I can see to bottom of shallow end, and part way down the slope, or approx 4-5 ft.

Cal hypo. I've always used liquid chlorine but it's impossible to find here now due to COVID.

    Calcium advice needed

Ok thanks so I'm at 225 ppm which is in range. Any other idea why my water is hazy white? I went on vacation last week immediately following the algae bloom. I hired a neighbor to come over and test/shock around the clock. My CYA measured 50 before I left, however when I returned it was down...

Yes my mistake I meant 9 drops of R-12, not R-11.

    Calcium advice needed

Sorry my mistake. 9 drops of R-12. By the way, Richard said use 5 drops of 11 (if using 10ml), however the link Tex sent me says add 3 drops. Does it make a difference? Do I need to re-test with 3 drops f 11 instead of 5? I also see that I multiply by 25 now, so if I did it correctly, that...

    Calcium advice needed

That worked. I added 9 drops of 11 to get to blue. Still multiply by 10? If so, that means my CH is only 90, which means it isn't the problem.

    Calcium advice needed

No, I followed the SLAM process and got rid of the algae. My mistake was using Cal Hypo instead of bleach (bleach has become impossible to find in my area due to COVID). Also I follow the CYA/FC chart. My CYA was 50 and I never let my FC fall below 5. My pool is in direct sunlight all day in...

I broke down and bought a wifi power trip detector. Will alert me when power goes off so I can turn pump back on.

    Calcium advice needed

Here's the odd thing. My CH test is very inconclusive. When I add the Taylor R-0011L calcium indicator liquid the water BARELY turns pink (not red). I add the R-0012 hardness regent and it never turns blue. Just goes from light pink to white. Wondering if I need to make a trip to the pool store...

    Calcium advice needed

33k gallon vinyl pool, SWG and sand filter. Recently I added a ton of calcium hypochlorite to treat an algae outbreak after my VS pump cut off for 2 days following a power blip. I've done this previously successfully however this time I guess I hit a break point and turned the pool milky white...
