    Pool Lighting

Thank you! I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to swap them out, but I will do that and report back. It’d be nice for them just to stay on as well vs. automatically shutting off after a little bit.

    Pool Lighting

Good afternoon TFP! I’ve been trying to fix my pool lighting and have attached an image of the box and wiring. When we moved in, we assumed the lights didn’t work because the previous owners wired up halogen flood lighting on the side of the house to light the pool up. After messing with one of...

Re: New member of TFP Here is a picture of what the pool looked like when we bought the house, (you can easily see the algae in the pool). It was being filled as the previous owners stopped caring for it and the water level was so low the pump wouldn't even prime: This is what it typically...

Re: New member of TFP The picture in the first post is what the pool looked like before the SLAM. The worst the pool has looked like period since I've bought the house was something like this (not my photo/pool): The water was fairly clear/clear but the walls and steps of the pool were...

Re: New member of TFP I had someone add 110 oz of 8.25% bleach to the pool, while I was at work, after the pool was shaded to bring the FC level up. Just tested and got FC - 20.5 and CC - >0.5. I'm going to give OCLT a go without adding anything like last night and then getting messed...

Re: New member of TFP Just got out of the pool and I think I've eliminated the last three sources of algae. I pulled both lights out (1 in the pool and 1 in the spa) and both lights had algae growing on the back. I brushed out the housings and around the housing where the light trim would...

Re: New member of TFP The weird thing was though that I did the initial test once I got home from work and got FC - 22.5. I added 5 3/4 cups of 10% LC to raise it to a target of 24. I retested an hour later and got all of those different, lower readings. I just don't get how at night my FC...

Re: New member of TFP Holding off on the OCLT now. I've tested the FC five different times since the last FC/CC test with five different water samples and gotten FC readings of: 21.5, 21.5, 19, 15.5 and 16.5. That averages out to 18.8. I guess I'm going to raise the FC level back up to a target...

Re: New member of TFP Copy that on the swimsuit kimkats, thanks! I haven't actually gotten in yet though either. Here is my progress so far (been keeping it logged): 6/4/15 Test Results @ 1300 Approximately 24,000 gallons. FC - 4.5 CC - 1 TC - 5.5 pH - 7.8 CH - 225 TA - 90 CYA - 60 Removed...

Re: New member of TFP Tested FC twice now, and just did CC. FC as first tested was 28 and is now 27.5. CC tested as 1, possibly even 0.5. It was actually difficult to tell as it first looked like 0.5, but another drop a couple of seconds later seemed like it made it clearer.

Re: New member of TFP Awesome, thanks! pH was perfectly 7.2 after adding the acid, so I then added 5 gallons of liquid chlorinator to bring FC up to 24. Just scrubbed the heck out of it so now to wait and I'll recheck FC in a while and see where it's at. I never thought I'd be excited about...

Re: New member of TFP Quick question: at what point during the SLAM would it be safe to enter the pool? It would probably be a great idea to remove the few lights and scrub everything since 1. they don't work and 2. I've got algae growing around the trim rings of them, if not also underneath...

Re: New member of TFP Thanks for the welcome! Just got back from Lowes with a jug of muriatic acid and four more gallons of chlorine (14 gallons total) to SLAM the pool. Just want to make sure I'll have enough on hand for the process since I'm going to need to add something like 6.5-7 gallons...

Re: New member of TFP I have started to read those indeed! "Recommended Pool Chemicals" is of the things I began reading before joining. That's what got me onto Clorox bleach and baking soda for pool chemicals. ;)

Re: New member of TFP Good call on Lowe's. Didn't know you could buy it by the jug like that. I will remove the tabs. Right now, I've got 9 gallons of 10% and 1 gallon of 8.25 ("regular" Clorox bleach). I bought the stronger 10% in anticipation of needing to SLAM the pool. That, and the...

Re: New member of TFP I'll have to go get some pH down. I had a bottle of it in the cart last night and then put it back (doh!). Should I remove the floater/chlorine tabs?

Re: New member of TFP I got my TF-100 and Speed Stir today (what a sweet little toy, I'm glad I bought it if for no other reason other than how cool it is!), and ran the tests. Here are the results: FC= 4.5 (I added a gallon of 10% liquid chlorine last night to try and raise it from 2 to a...

Re: New member of TFP Thanks! I'm holding off on a SLAM (or anything else really) because the kit I have doesn't test CYA, so I don't actually know where I'm at on the FC/CYA scale. I've got this kit and can basically test chlorine, pH and TA. I will post TF-100 results tomorrow after I get the...

Hello all! I've been doing a lot of reading around here and it's helped me learn enough to take over maintenance of my pool myself. I bought my first house (and pool) last fall and up until last week, I have had a pool service maintaining my pool and spa. I ordered a basic Poolmaster test kit...
