    suggestions to save the frogs?

Same. We use frog log and it works great. At night when i have things shut down, I place it directly in front of the skimmer so they can’t get in the basket. Also works for snakes, crickets and salamanders!

Mesh vs Solid for snowy winters

I like my tarp cover - but have never used mesh. I like the tarp since I can scoop leaves and gunk off it, making my life easier in the spring. None of that residual waste ends up in the pool. I bought a fairly cheap submersible pump from Home Depot and whenever I can, I pump water off...

    Order of chemical addition

Hi all Fallout from big rains: Salt - 2700 ppm TA - 50 ppm Cl - 5 ppm pH - 7.5 CYA - 30 CH - 220 CC - 0 So I need to bump salt, CYA and TA. Is there amy issue with adding baking soda, stabilizer and salt all at once??? Cheers all Tom

    Adding salt

Hi all Mid season, lots of rain, salt concentration has dropped to 2700 ppm. Going to add another bag of salt to bump it up. Do I need to turn the hayward SWG off for 24 hrs after I add the salt? Cheers Tom

Why Do I Find Sand in My Pool?

I find sand daily in the pool...does it come in from the returns? It is not copious amounts, but enough to make me notice it. Is there a way to determine whether it is coming from the sand filter, or simply kids and wind bringing it in?

    Ants!

We mixed equal parts baking soda and powdered sugar right next to where the ants were accumulating. The baking soda screws up their internal pH, and the sugar attracts them to the baking soda. Problem solved

Is 2 hours a day too little?

Thanks all. I plan on bumping the chlorine with a full jug before we leave. I have just installed a pump timer, and turned swg on to 100%. Plan is to run pump for a two hour stint in the am, followed by a 90 min stint in the pm. My wife thinks I am going overboard (70$ on the timer), and...

Is 2 hours a day too little?

Pool is about 75K litres.... We have a single speed hayward 1/2 HP pump. Is 2 hours per day enough run time? Cheers Tom

Confused about DE - why, when, how?

I don’t really understand what DE is, what motivates pool owners to use it, and how I determine when to use it? It appears there are dedicated DE filters, but there also seems to be another group of DE users that simply add it to their skimmer so it gets trapped in the sand filter.

Solar system independent of pool pump, filter, etc

No. Pump is fine. I want to run it independent of pool pump, and was thinking a 1/4 HP to run solar system. I guess the downside is new plumbing.

Solar system independent of pool pump, filter, etc

Is this possible? I would like a fully independent solar hot water system that does not require our pool plumbing system to be running...

Sudden increase in pool water level

Hi all Looking for validation of mine, or new opinions of yours... We have winterized our pool - standard approach: drain water below jets, blow out lines, seal returns and supply, close equipment down (sand filter, pumps, etc.), and of course water balance. Once all done, we cover pool...

    Direct solar pumping

We spent about 1,500 - canadian $ - (if memory serves) for the pump and controller. That does not include the wiring, or the 1500W of new solar that we installed, but like I said, that 1500W of solar is switched to my batteries when the pump is not running. As for power, it produces about...

    Direct solar pumping

Hi I saw needsajet sent me a note, so reading this now. We have been using the Lorentz pump for two years, and mostly problem free. We put in the solar pump because we did not want to tie into our ac system either. The biggest issue we faced was because we only use the pool for 4 months...

Trading bleach for MA w/ a SWG?

You need less MA by volume than bleach, and generally don't need to add daily, vs daily bleach requirement with nonSWG. Others more schooled will probably weigh in here, but that is my experience 18000 IG, SWG, 1/2 HP Tri Star + Solar PV direct DC Lorentz pump, Sand filtrt

Safe to operate pump with skimmer weir broken?

Great responses. The message I am receiving is don't freak out, but get a new one when possible...no pump damage, but better quality skim with weir operating. 18000 IG, SWG, 1/2 HP Tri Star + Solar PV direct DC Lorentz pump, Sand filtrt

    Frog Log

Maybe it is just a coincidence, but as soon as I dropped a frog log on the side of the pool, dead critters were no longer found in the pool. In one week prior to purchasing,'I had multiple dead frogs, several mice and a chipmunk!! Aside from dropping a jug of bleach each time I found a mouse...

Safe to operate pump with skimmer weir broken?
