Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

2023 price increase at Ocean State Job Lot in the Northeast. $5.99. That is a 100.33% price increase over a 3 year period. OTOH, it's still probably the cheapest in the area, outside the Ace Hardware special that might occur over Memorial Day weekend.

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Reverting back to Ocean State Job Lot this season after picking up 18 cases at various ACE Hardware stores for their $2.99/gal Memorial Day sale last year. It doesn't seem like they were running the same sale at my local Ace. Their gallon jugs were running at $5.99. OCJL increased prices last...

Chlorinate water without using the pump?

Put the pump in the water for circulation, Dilluted 3 gallons of chlorine, one gallon at a time, while my son stirred it to spread it around. I also brushed at the application spot. Hopefully, I don't end up with a white liner.

Chlorinate water without using the pump?

No kayak, but I do have a pump. I suppose I can run that while my son brushes and I pour in the chlorine. I'll probably dilute it in a 5 gallon bucket too (oh, and wear white). Every little bit should help.

Chlorinate water without using the pump?

I uncovered my pool yesterday and got everything ready to de-green far in advance of Memorial Day. However, when pressured started to build, water came flowing out of the connection to the heater. Evidently, a coupling cracked over the winter and there is no bypass. I have an appointment to get...

What did you do to your pool today?

Emptied a few inches in preparation for Winter. It's supposed to be mild this week, so it's not too cold next weekend, I'll bring it down another few.

What did you do to your pool today?

Vacuumed, added muriatic acid, brought the water to SLAM level, threw in the floating chlorinator, and left for a week's vacation.

What did you do to your pool today?

Wicked thunderstorms came through this week, so I took the canvas canopy off the steel frame gazebo. Last night, I drained about 3 inches and now that TS Elsa is passing, I'll drain another 3 inches. I'll do a round of tests and add CYA, but I'll probably hold off on putting the robot in until...

    Figuring pool volume

Wait. If you estimate the water and/or chemical volume incorrectly, you could risk bleaching your liner. Especially if the pump is not running and you can't mix the solution effectively.

    Figuring pool volume

Take a before test panel, add a single chemical (liquid chlorine for example), wait about an hour for it to mix thoroughly and test again. Back into the water volume using the change in results, chemical strength, and chemical volume as the constants. I'd assume the drawings are more accurate...

What did you do to your pool today?

Added a gallon of chlorine, and plan to add another full gallon tomorrow as well as the robot. The temp dropped 20 degrees and about an inch or so of rain fell this afternoon, but should be back in the low 80s this weekend. That will be good for Saturday, but my boys got me Red Sox tickets for...

Still didn't open this season yet...somehow just don't have the enthusiasm to do it....anybody else (in the 60+ age group) feel the same way??

I sent my son into preschool in his bathing suit and crocs (Change of clothes in his backpack.). His teacher saw him and said to me, "Oh I don't know if we are having water play today. It's supposed to rain all morning." Hmm...So you're not sending them out into the sprinklers because it's...

    Cya clarification

I've read that CYA evaporates, but at an extremely slow rate. Something like under 5% per month, which if left alone with no splash out or other method of drainage, would be undetectable in a test. For instance 5% of 40 ppm is 2ppm. At the end of the day, act as if CYA stays in the water, but...

Still didn't open this season yet...somehow just don't have the enthusiasm to do it....anybody else (in the 60+ age group) feel the same way??

It's a little cooler later into the Spring in the Northeast part of the country than it might be in California.

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Last I saw, OSJL in the northeast is still $4.49/gal. for 12.5% concentration. I stocked up over Memorial Day weekend at ACE Hardware, when it was $2.99/gal. for 10% concentration. Still have about 16 cases left, which should get me through closing with a case or so to spare. Last I saw at...

    Cloudy Water

70 is ideal for a SWG, but SLAM FC would need to be 28. I don't know how big you pool is, but mine for example (27k gallons) would require about 7 gallons of liquid chlorine just to get it there. Are you about to partially drain and refill to dilute the CYA?

    Trouble with Stabilizer

How old are your TF100 test reagents and how are they stored? I remember after my 2nd year of TFP, the R-0870 powder got real hard and hardly any Chlorine would show up.

    Trouble with Stabilizer

34,000 gallons is pretty big. What is the chlorine concentration?

Testing chlorine and color remains pink

Just an aside, At 26.5 ppm FC, your pH measurement probably cannot be trusted.

Getting Sand in Pool, brand new pool

This isn't going to help your sand issue, but you should strongly consider getting a recommended test kit so you are not under the pool store's thumb and add unnecessary chemicals to your pool.

Testing chlorine and color remains pink

21 drops is 10.5 ppm. The block only goes up to 5. Do the FC test again to the letter of the instructions and add enough drops until the solution runs clear. Divide that number by 2. What is your CYA? If it is at the recommended leave for a SWG 10.5 is not awful in that it shouldn't bleach a...

How many hours should my pump work per day ?

I set my timer clock to run from about 3-8pm+- 15 minutes or so. The dial is not 100% accurate to the time of day. I will manually flip it on earlier on a weekend day because we will presumably be using the pool earlier and I too like a clean surface when I get there. My robot is electric so I...

    Trouble with Stabilizer

If you are performing the tests as the card instructs to the letter, trust your kit over the pool store analysis.

    Need to SLAM

I caught a few minutes of the Zoom conference on YouTube yesterday. SLAM level FC = 40% CYA. I try to maintain my CYA between 30-40, which means SLAM FC would be 16 tops. So it does make sense.

    Need to SLAM

Alternatively, you could do a partial drain and refill, but that would necessitate bumping your CYA back up to 70 after you are done.

    Nub on a mission

Unless you've used a floc, clarifier or some other pool store coagulation, you probably don't have to change out your sand. A deep clean might be all that is necessary. However, if you decide to, this is probably the only thing, other than maybe hardware, you should go back to the pool store to...

What did you do to your pool today?

Looked like there were very fine particulates floating in the water. I could still see the main drain in detail, but I wanted to get out in front of any potential algae before the weekend. I added 3x my normal daily maintenance dose of chlorine.

    SLAM a neglected Pool

    New Here! Neglected Pool

That sounds like a lot, but you also said in the original post that there is debris at the bottom. Frankly, you have no idea until your kit arrives, because the strips are more or less worthless. For 28k gallons of water your best bet is to get as much debris out of the pool as you can and add...
