    Pool Store Liquid Chlorine

Thanks for the quick reply. I deep cleaned the sand filter about a week ago and I backflush it when I see the pressure rise a certain amount. I had to backflush a couple of times initially due to pressure rise but I've not seen a significant pressure rise now in over three days. As an...

    Pool Store Liquid Chlorine

I've been slamming my pool for well over a week now, maybe 10 days. It has been passing the OCLT and CC tests for about a week now. I run my filter 24/7. The water remains cloudy with hardly any noticeable improvement in clarity from day-to-day. I am using bulk liquid chlorine, 10.5%, which...

    CYA's Relationship to Chlorine

Can someone explain how CYA impacts the effectiveness of chlorine? I understand that CYA helps preserve/protect chlorine from sunlight. How does that work? Does it combine with and protect chlorine, keeping chlorine from working as a sanitizer below a certain level, depending on the level of...

    Quikrete Sand?

I successfully cleaned out the sand using a water hose per the excellent process that can be found on this TFP site. A lot of milky-looking crud came up and floated out. The sand cleaned up just fine and doesn't need to be replaced as far as I can tell. The level is about midway between the...

    Quikrete Sand?

Yes, and thanks for the reminder. Per instruction that came with the filter I always turn it to rinse for one minute after backwashing, etc., prior to turning it to filter.

Dual Filters - Sand and Cartridge

I'm probably guilty of backwashing my sand filter too often. I have it apart right now, flushing it out for its annual maintenance. While removing the valve on top the innards came up. As a result I've had to unscrew the "fingers" and remove the tube. Next I had to scoop out the sand so that...

    Quikrete Sand?

I've noticed a lot of folks have reported problems with Quikrete sand being too fine and getting into the pool. I've used Quikrete sand for the last four or so years. I recall when I initially filled the tank with sand there was a small but noticeable amount of sand that came out into the...

Dual Filters - Sand and Cartridge

Thanks for the quick reply. I wasn't clear in what I was asking, my bad. I have a FAS-DPD test kit and have been slamming at a FC level of 14 with a CYA level of 30 now for about four days. The green went away within the first few hours but the grey cloudiness has lingered ever since with...

Dual Filters - Sand and Cartridge

I have a 20' Intex AGP that I'm in process of reopening. I have a Intex sand filter which came with the pool. I let the water turn green over the winter. Two days ago I started slamming. The green went away within a few hours resulting in the water turning grey. I scooped and vacuumed the...

How much polyquat to use for closing?

How much 60% polyquat to use for closing a 10,000 gal AGP in SW Georgia? I'm ordering a 32 oz container. Is 16oz enough, saving enough for the following year, or should I just pour the whole 32 oz in? Also, it appears I should wait 'till the water temp drops to 60 degrees before closing, is...

    Rusted Intex Frame

My pool did the same thing. It's not defective pipe. It's simply the effects of salt water on the metal. I feel Intex is at fault for not warning people against using the salt water system with these AGPs. I replaced the pool and use liquid chlorine and thus far, after three years, have not...

    2018 Bleach Prices

Just bought six one-gal jugs of 10% from Walmart for $3.64. Works out to $0.284 per the calculator. Looks like I paid way too much but not sure where in Albany, GA I can find it cheaper.

Anyone use Lowes for their pool supplies?

Good point but my K-2006 kit has been used to SLAM my pool several times. One great tip I've learned on this forum that has saved me a lot of reagent is to use the 1 drop = 0.5 ppm, 10 ml sample when testing for chlorine level. Also, I've learned on this forum it's not necessary to use two...

Anyone use Lowes for their pool supplies?

Thanks. I already have the K-2006 and was wondering if my kit is missing something important. Looks like I am able to do all the necessary tests with this kit. I've had the kit about five years now and have had to purchase more FAS-DPD powder as well as some of the other chemicals. I go with...

Anyone use Lowes for their pool supplies?

Why only the "C" version of the 2006? As far as I can tell the only difference between the "C" version and the standard K-2006 is the size of the bottles of chemicals supplied, with the "C" having 2 oz bottles and the standard having 0.75 oz bottles. Am I missing something?

    Cloudy Water

This seems to be the issue. I did not complete the SLAM. I've resumed it yesterday and the water appears to be clearing up nicely. I expect by tomorrow morning it will be clear, or nearly so. I will keep it up 'till it is clear. Hopefully my grand kids will be swimming this weekend. - - -...

    Cloudy Water

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I was amazed at how quickly the green algae turned to grey. I added the chlorine maybe 4 pm one afternoon and it had turned to grey by 7 pm that evening. I lost chlorine level during the first night but kept up the slam, checking the chlorine level every few hours...

    Cloudy Water

I have the Taylor K-2006 test kit and rely on the results I get from that. At the same time, occasionally I let the pool store test a sample and they've always, over the last three years, come up with results very close to my own results. I slammed at a level of 20 for two days and the second...

    Cloudy Water

I have a 20 ft Intex AGP. I let the water go green during the winter. Two weeks ago I slammed it, easily killing the algae and passing the OCLT test by the second night. There was a lot of dead algae on the bottom and also, I assume, suspended. I've vacuumed most of it out and have been...

    Green Opening Question

I have a 20', 52", above ground Intex pool with sand filter. The water has turned green over the winter. Should I drain the water and start over or should I add chlorine and work on clearing up the water that is in the pool? (I have a well) My sand filter has been in operation for about two...

Going on vacation for a week this month (July). Intex, 20' AGP. How do I "close" to prevent algae during my absence?

    What Works For Me

Looks like I will lose 2.5 ppm FC during a very bright, hot day and only 1 ppm during a cloudy/rainy day. My pH and TA seem to be pretty stable. I feel I can "ballpark" the daily addition of chlorine (on the safe side) without having to test daily now, probably just like DaneCE posted above...

    What Works For Me

In keeping your FC around 7 to 8, do you check it multiple times during the day so as to ensure it doesn't drop below 7 or am I misunderstanding what you posted?

    What Works For Me

That's pretty much part of my plan. As my CYA level shows I should run FC level from 3 - 5, I will adjust to 6 or more each evening (to ensure it does not drop below 3 during the day.) I also plan to boost that a few PPM if I start seeing any dead algae on the bottom in the mornings. - - -...

    What Works For Me

I have a 20', 52" Intex pool. My CYA is 40. Down here in the SW Georgia sunshine it appears I will lose roughly 2.5 ppm chlorine during the day. The chart on this site says I should maintain a FC level between 3 and 5 ppm. It appears I will need to add 32 oz of 8.25% bleach each day to keep...

    Pool Store Testing

I understand and am always suspicious. However, I am standing at the counter while they do the test right in front of me on the other side of the counter. I see them use the same plastic device that came in my K-2006 kit, the one with the large and small tubes and ph color squares in the...
