    0 CYA?

Yes, FC (thanks). I just tested FC again this morning and it was consistent with last night (so I assume that I do not have a problem with CYA. I have an additional CYA test bottle--so I used that this morning--and of course, it registered at 70 CYA (as I expected). It looks like I have a bad...

    0 CYA?

Here are my current test results: 10 CC 7.7 PH 90 TA 0 CYA I have an SWG and usually keep the CYA at about 70 or so. I tested it today and was surprised to see it at 0. I haven't had problems with my chlorine levels--I have been keeping them a bit high however (as you can see). Could my...

    2.25 pool return inlet?

I'm learning as I go. :( I have two broken returns in my stairs. I ended up pulling this out of the wall (from the return plumbing) as it is broken and I wanted to see if I could replace it. However, This will now only go back into the wall about half way. I'm afraid that I am going to have...

    2.25 pool return inlet?

I have two 1.5 inch inlets on the walls of my pool. They each come in two pieces that can be separated. All the inlets I am finding online would fit this style / size. However, my stairs have two inlets that come out as one piece and measure 2.25 inches. They both need replacing and I cannot...

    2.25 pool return inlet?

The inlets by my stairs do not seem like a standard size. 2.25 is my measurement of the outside thread to the outside thread. Does anyone know where I can get these from?

Local Pool Company Winterizing vs Recommendations on this forum

A related question.. I would like to get anti-freeze into the return jets as an insurance policy as I am realizing that there is still some water in these pipes. However, without lowering my water further (2-3 more inches below the jet), this will be difficult. I dont have access to pour the...

Local Pool Company Winterizing vs Recommendations on this forum

I'm wondering the same.. here is a picture of the autocover. It normally droops a bit but I keep the water level pretty high throughout the season. However, the water level now is a couple of inches below the skimmer and right above the return jets.

Local Pool Company Winterizing vs Recommendations on this forum

I have had two local pool companies close / winterize my pool for the last 5 years. This year, I took the advice given in this forum and attempted it myself. I lowered the water to below the skimmer, blew out the lines, etc, etc. However, whenever they winterized the pool, they did not drain...

    Air bubbles after capping return?

I just attempted to winterize and close my pool for the first time without paying the pool company $400. I think, as is probably normal, I am really worried that I did it correctly. I live in Central Illinois--and last winter we had record cold of -30 degrees for a few days. I have two...

    Hayward Super Pump Impeller broken

Hello all. Had the pool company come and open my pool and the Hayward 1hp super pump impeller was broken. The motor on this pump was replaced three years ago. The pool technician recommended to replace the pump with a Jandy FloPro 1hp instead of replacing the impeller (~$700 or so). He...

Outdoor pool causes tickle-in-throat and coughing

The PowerBlue is the only thing that I knew for certain that I have done differently this year (environment, surroundings included). We spend a lot of time outside (next to the pool). The coughing doesn't persist unless we are in the pool. However, a small update. I have left the cover open...

Outdoor pool causes tickle-in-throat and coughing

One thing that I did do differently this year.. I used a water line cleaner called Power Blue waterline and tile cleaner earlier this summer. I used the contents of the entire bottle as I had some difficult areas to get clean. I am not certain if this adding a bottle of this to a 33,000g...

Outdoor pool causes tickle-in-throat and coughing

Regarding the water chemistry, nothing has changed (other than slightly lower TA / PH). However, I am uncertain when this issue started--but I started noticing it about three weeks ago. I also cleaned the salt cell a few weeks ago. However, I have not seen an improvement in cell performance...

Outdoor pool causes tickle-in-throat and coughing

Over the last few weeks, we have noticed that whenever we are in the pool, we have coughs. This is a 1.5 year old, a 3 year old, and both parents. Yesterday, we had family over and they were all coughing. We have decided not to swim anymore until we determine what is going on. The pool is...

    Winter pool water loss

Hello everyone. Wanting some input on this. I live in Illinois--so still have a while until I open the pool for the summer. I usually fill my water line up and over the top screw in my skimmer cover to help keep the automatic cover from dropping too low. However, I have noticed that my pool...

Preventing Algae before opening of pool

Hello all. I was going to open my pool yesterday. I realized that my pump is bad (something I was planning for). As a result, I am waiting to get a replacement motor and the pool has not opened yet. The pool is covered with a solid automatic cover. The weather so far has been touching 70...

    Green film on liner

Yep. I was running at a CYA of 60 or under much of this year.. I kept trying to get it up to 70 but we had lots of rain (and lots of draining) this year.. A while back I added a bunch of CYA (maybe a bit too much) to get to 80.. And then never adjusted my FC to match. Hence, the problem.
