    New SWCG installation chemistry question

Moving away from chemistry, would I be making a mistake by plumbing the flow switch directly into the outlet of the SWG? Or is it supposed to be a minimum distance away from it? No mention of that in the instructions, just a diagram that shows it plumbed after the SWG.

    New SWCG installation chemistry question

I'm glad I asked, I would have thought the readings would get worse as the water warmed. Chilly water down here in Tampa probably means something different than it does to folks up north, right now my pool's at 78°, in the summer I don't complain if it creeps into the low 90s.

    New SWCG installation chemistry question

Yeah that jumped out at me too! Oh it's an El cheapo (off eBay no less...), US Xtremepower, item 90151, 90152, or 90153. It's a 40,000 gallon unit, and I really don't see anywhere it states which model. I know I'm rolling the dice here a bit, I've had a couple of pumps with the same label...

    New SWCG installation chemistry question

10ml, as per the TFTestkits instructions. Thanks for asking Jim.

    New SWCG installation chemistry question

OK great, liking those responses, thank you both! How badly does warmer water skew the test results? I do tend to keep mine warm with the solar heater and a cover.

    New SWCG installation chemistry question

All set to install this thing, haven't done anything to the water but test it. Just got my fancy new, upgraded Pro salt test kit, it took 17 drops to turn the salt test milky red. With 3400ppm do I need to add salt? Manufacturer's range is 1700ppm - 4500ppm, says it stops generating once it's...

    SolarTouch gone haywire

Found this: Toggle for $92. Wondering if I'd be better off just getting one of these: Hayward $135 Intermatic $120

    SolarTouch gone haywire

Well looks like it's not the switches, and I did put them in. Seems that water pooled at the bottom of the housing by the toggle switch and soaked the circuit board. I used some MAF sensor cleaner and a little brass brush and cleaned it up (this is the before pic...), same symptoms, it spun...

    SolarTouch gone haywire

Got the switches from Mouser today, and Pentair customer service responded on Monday, 9 days after I emailed them (to be fair that's only 5 work days assuming a 3-day July 4th weekend). We established it's not registered and out of warranty (1 years for the actuator, 3 for the controller)...

    SolarTouch gone haywire

Understood, I won't. Just ordered 6 switches - I can't let myself spend more on shipping than the actual products I'm buying..., but not complaining about $8 to UPS to have them here by Wednesday.

    SolarTouch gone haywire

Great link, looks like the info I need should be right there. Doubt it's under warranty, I've had it for at least 4 years. I'll take it apart and hopefully just find switches that need replacing. Thanks again.

    SolarTouch gone haywire

Thx for the reply Allen, I've been flipping the switch plenty, that's how I've been able to keep using it - I get it spinning until it's where I want it and put the toggle in the middle so it doesn't move. Actuator P/N 263045, S/N 1245045170070A Haven't taken it apart yet, I emailed Pentair...

    SolarTouch gone haywire

The 3-way actuator has been turning the valve the wrong way - down, across the inlet port, rather than up and opposite the inlet port. It also stops at almost 45* angles, blocking some of the inlet. I've turned off the breaker to reset it several times, it'll work properly for awhile then I see...

    Thoughts on 12V Peristaltic Pump

It's been about a year since I went through this, a few months after I installed the solar. I'm pretty sure it happened at high speed also, I should put the VRV back in and check my memory, maybe I'll do that this weekend. Even at low speed, although I can intuitively accept it more easily, I...

    Thoughts on 12V Peristaltic Pump

I hear you, and thought the same, but after I installed the thermal panels I noticed little air bubbles coming from one of the jets. I harvested the panels and the 2" PVC up-to-back-down-from the roof valve and manifold from a solar electric customer, the VRV was screwed into a Tee fitting...

    Thoughts on 12V Peristaltic Pump

Interesting, thx for the update. I just ordered JECOD/JEBAO DP-2 Auto Dosing Pump 2 Channel Brand New FREE SHIPPING Warranty | eBay. A little more $ total, but it's plug-n-play and has 2 pumps if I need to pump acid or the first one craps out for some reason. I plan to try plumbing it to the...

    Thoughts on 12V Peristaltic Pump

Great timing Dave - for me anyway... I'm going to pull the trigger on a setup and am curious how your test works out. I had 3 big trees that were right next to the house and shaded the pool almost all day removed in May, and I need an inexpensive system to bridge the gap to the SWG that...

    Thoughts on 12V Peristaltic Pump

Thanks. Can this pump handle injecting on the return/pressure side? I'd like to plumb it to the return just before it goes back underground and to the pool.

What power supply and timer are you using with that pump? The Dosing Pump12V DC Peristaltic Liquid Pump.

FC / CYA ratio WAY off from guidelines

OK I see in the detailed chart that yellow algae min FC for CYA40 is 6.1. After it drifts backs from 20+ I'll target 8 and be sure not to let it dip to 6. Thanks Richard.

FC / CYA ratio WAY off from guidelines

My never-ending SLAM finally ended after several weeks for the 2nd year in a row - or so I thought... It started back in mid-March, with the yellow/green algae. Testing showed low CYA and of course low FC, so I got the CYA up into the low 30's over a coupe few weeks while keeping FC in the...

How unwise is it to dump a bag of cal-hypo powder in the inline feeder?

Yes, my comment was more than a little tongue in cheek in light of the hysteria my original question unintentionally provoked. Given the potential for such a violent reaction, perhaps a warning on Pool School - How to Chlorinate Your Pool is advised.

How unwise is it to dump a bag of cal-hypo powder in the inline feeder?

Thank you, "the powder is not going to erode correctly in the feeder" is the answer for which I was looking, I certainly never intended to dump a bag in on top of tablets. Although I do now feel fortunate that my feeder didn't explode in the past as I'm sure at one time or another I've...

How unwise is it to dump a bag of cal-hypo powder in the inline feeder?

What other types of chlorine might be in there? The tablets, the liquid? I'm just wondering if, and don't think this is wise but am not quite sure why yet, if the inline feeder could be used for the powder (with no tabs) when I'm away for a few days b/c it's not stabilized and won't raise the CYA.

Will 68% super shock clog it or make it brittle?

    2-speed 110V motor w/timer (B2981T)

The pic I included is of the Hayward, apologies if that caused confusion. The bolt holes of the Hayward are 5 1/2" apart (all along the perimeter, not corner-corner). The bolt holes on the StaRite are 5" apart (measured the same way).
