    Just fired the pool guy

Fascinating read. When I discovered TFP, got my TF-100, and tested my pool the FC was at 55. That's measured with the TF-100. The other chlorine test was dark brown! Very similar situation. Pool guy was completely dismissive. They were paying for the chemicals. I guess it was cheaper to...

    SWG Better?

Yes, it's better. We take 2+ week trips in the summer. I lower the Ph before I leave. When I get back it's a little elevated. That's it. Done.

Replaced T15 Hayward SWG, salt display still showing low &Check System after 3 days?

Re: Replaced T15 Hayward SWG, salt display still showing low &Check System after 3 da The unit has an instant salt reading when you run through the diagnostics by pressing the small button. Once you're on the salt reading move the power switch to "super chlorinate" and then back to the on...

New SWG installed, Aqua Rite salt level reads 3700

    1. As long as the salt cell will operate with that level of salt you will be fine. 2. Don't trust the pool store. Buy the kit and test it yourself. Monthly should be fine. 3. Salt doesn't "burn off." It will stay in the water indefinitely. The salt in the water can only be diluted...

    No Free Chlorine

It's not the SWCG's fault. Something is eating all the chlorine it can produce. It's either Algae or Sun. What is the CYA level? Go to the top of this page and click on pool school. Read about the ABC's of pool care and how to SLAM the pool. Users here don't "shock" our pools, we SLAM them...

    Power problems with Hayward SWG

It sounds like the SWG but I would plug something else into the GFCI outlet the next time it happens just to make sure it hasn't popped. But, if the outlet is popping repeatedly that is also a sign of a problem as well.

    Questions on adding borates

The first time I added borates I went the 20 Mule team borax and muratic acid route. This year I used boric acid from Duda Diesel. It was way easier and about the same price as doing it the hard way.

Hayward aqua rite with t-15 cell help

Just because there is not chlorine in the pool doesn't mean there is something wrong with the cell. Most likely the cell is working properly. You just happened to be looking at it when it was not supposed to be producing chlorine because it was set to something less than 100% or super...

Hayward aqua rite with t-15 cell help

Sounds like it's running fine and then shuts off. 1. What is the output % set to? The unit only runs full on. The % just controls how long it's fully on during a given 180 minute cycle. After a period of time mine doesn't produce chlorine either. That's normal. 2. What happens when you...

    Advice on new pump

If you are going to pay someone to install the pump make sure that if you don't already have proper hi-temp unions on the pump they put them on as part of the installation. That way, if you ever need to remove or replace the pump it will be much easier to do it yourself.

    Pump Timer Issues.

Not quite. The center aluminum colored arm does not move. Leave it alone and just consider it a pointer as to the time of day. Pull out the yellow dial and rotate the yellow dial so that the current time of day is under the aluminum colored pointer. The timer works exactly opposite of a...

    Muriatic Acid usage?

My pool is about 1/3 the size of yours and I've used about 3 quarts in 2 months. So, maybe around a gallon a month?

    Brand new pool owner

Welcome bmoore2! How confident are you in your test readings? The reason I ask it that it would be very hard to get your results. CYA is only accurate to within about 10, FC to .5, and TA to about 10. Are you sure the results are correct? I only ask because I've been there too. If the test...

Aqua Rite keeps generating - No flow doens't light when pump stops

Don't feel silly. That's why we are all here. If you unplug it and it does not go to "no flow" very quickly then you probably have a problem other than the flow switch. But, it sounds like the switch is stuck.

Aqua Rite keeps generating - No flow doens't light when pump stops

Have you tried unplugging the flow switch and seeing what happens. If "no flow" comes on with the switch unplugged you may have your answer.

    Convert to salt

The main thing to understand is that a "salt" conversion still uses chlorine. It's just created by the salt water chlorine generator instead of added in jugs. You still use chlorine to sanitize your pool. The process is to add a "salt cell" to the discharge side of the pool plumbing. This...

My pool is exactly like this minus the extra spa pump that nobody ever really uses but has to maintain. I have one variable speed pump that handles everything.

    Replacing pump and adding SWG

Sure, fill it up then get to testing and balancing. If you don't want to put the control unit on the siding you could always drive or set a post in the ground and mount it on that.

    Replacing pump and adding SWG

Glad to hear you got it wired the way you want. When you open up those intermatic panels they're actually pretty basic once you start looking at them. It makes them really easy to rewire. Why are you draining half the water out of the pool? Sky high CYA? Take your time on the salt additions...

    Replacing pump and adding SWG

You've got it, this one looks easy. Open the timer box and unscrew the tab holding the wires going to the new pool pump, remove the wires, and then place them on the tabs coming into the timer from the power source and you're done. Just to be clear, move the two black "A" wires from the...

    Replacing pump and adding SWG

Is the box on top that says DANGER the intermatic timer? If so, I would shut off the power at some place before the timer. Open it up and just move the wires going to the pool pump from the load to the line side of the timer and you'll be done. It will take you longer to figure out which...

DaninFLA, you have an excellent point about many people not wanting to learn or do for themselves. I don't know what has brought this about. My friends think I'm nuts...

It all depends on the neighbor and how well you know them. On the rare occasion that my neighbor needs water for his pool he puts a small sump pump in the lake behind our homes and pumps it into the pool. As the water is entering the pool he runs it into a bucket filled with pucks. I...
