Lost CYA over winter, Ammonia took it's place CYA or SLAM first?

Water has been clear all week. Poolmath said a little over 10lbs, (my target is 40). So, I'll go slow adding that. I'll take your suggestion on the ph and slow down on the Borax. I'll give it the weekend and see how much it rises, thanks.

Lost CYA over winter, Ammonia took it's place CYA or SLAM first?

Okay here is where I stand now. FC- 1.0 CC- 0.0 TA- 130 pH- 6.8 CYA- 0 Ammonia is still at 0 PPM, so I think it's been eliminated. My FC dropped quite a bit overnight (about 18 hours), but with 0 CYA, I think that is normal. This afternoon: I added enough chlorine to get me up to 5.0 FC...

Lost CYA over winter, Ammonia took it's place CYA or SLAM first?

Okay, so about 2 hours after my last round, I saw almost no drop in FC and I tested the Ammonia and it's coming up zero. My CC was at 0.5, but I think that was just the last of the ammonia dying? As suggested, I will wait another day and make sure that ammonia level is correct before I start...

Lost CYA over winter, Ammonia took it's place CYA or SLAM first?

Here's an update: FC- 2.0 CC- 0 TA- 120 pH- 6.8 CYA-0 It was about 18 hours since I last added chlorine with the pump running non-stop. I will test the Ammonia in a hour or so after I finish another 2 rounds. I have noticed a slight drop in my alkalinity and a large drop in my pH. I tested...

Lost CYA over winter, Ammonia took it's place CYA or SLAM first?

I loaded up at the store last night, but I think things are going in the right direction now. I'll get some readings after work. Did you eradicate all the ammonia before you added CYA or did you just get it very low? Thanks

Lost CYA over winter, Ammonia took it's place CYA or SLAM first?

After 5 rounds, and 13 gallons of 12.5%, my ammonia is down to about 2 ppm and my FC is starting to drop much slower (last check was about 4.0 after a half hour). My CC didn't drop as much as I'd expect though, it's still at about 2. That's all for tonight. Gonna keep the filter running and...

Lost CYA over winter, Ammonia took it's place CYA or SLAM first?

Oh, I am extremely thankful for the great amount of knowledge on these boards. I am not anywhere near expert level, but as you said it's great to have a little understanding on how it all works. I would've never thought to even check for ammonia, if it wasn't for researching these boards...

Lost CYA over winter, Ammonia took it's place CYA or SLAM first?

I just added 3 gallons (12.5%) which should've brought it up to 10.....1/2 hour later it's all gone. I guess I'll keep adding chlorine. Unreal!!

Lost CYA over winter, Ammonia took it's place CYA or SLAM first?

Hi Everyone, Over the winter, my CYA disappeared and was replaced by Ammonia. Below are my current #'s FC- 0.0 CC- 2.5 TA- 130 pH- 7.5 CYA-0 Ammonia is at 4 ppm (using aquarium test kit) The pool is not holding FC, I use liquid Chlorine. So I think I have to get my FC up to about 40 ppm to...

    Jacuzzi EW75 Filter Grids

The new style grids and manifold were a perfect fit. I just assumed that since my filter was old, the slight drip I saw off the back was something I had to live with. Well after replacing the O-ring, and greasing it up good, I saw no drip at all yesterday. Hopefully I can get another 10...

New manifold and grids, but DE on floor

Okay, so I did the install of the new manifold and grids yesterday (the replacement from INYO was not the same OEM config. I already had, but this replacement was a perfect fit as the old style is discontinued). Added 4 Orange scoops of DE at start-up. I then immediately vacuumed until I...

New manifold and grids, but DE on floor

Thanks for the reply. The pool is pretty clear, except for all the DE at the bottom. I tried running the Polaris a few times and it's not picking up anything (the DE runs right through the bag). But like you said, I'd hate to pick something large up with the vac and damage the grids. I guess...

New manifold and grids, but DE on floor

Okay, my new manifold and grids arrive tomorrow (found a replacement on INYO). The issue is that my old grids were shot and I have a good amount of DE on my pool floor. I should be adding 8 scoops to start the new grids off right, but since the grids will most likely be picking a lot of DE...

    Jacuzzi EW75 Filter Grids

Thanks. I ended up purchasing a complete new manifold with grids (curved style) from INYO. It seemed to be less expensive then replacing all of the grids. I also picked up a new O-Ring for the top. Hope this solves the problem.

    Jacuzzi EW75 Filter Grids

Hi Everyone, I have an old Jacuzzi EW75 filter. I'm pretty sure that the grids need replacing because I am starting to see DE coming back from the returns after adding it to the skimmer. When I cleaned the filter last week, they were looking kinda old and beat up, so I think that is what's...

Bumping up FC before two day trip

Quick question, my current FC target is 5 ppm. If I go away for two days, what number can I safely bring my FC up to to keep things in check until I get back? I am currently losing 1 ppm FC overnight and adding 50 oz of bleach nightly to maintain. Here are my numbers. thanks in advance for...

What is this anyway? I have no idea.

Hey everyone, had my pool now for 5 seasons and I really don't know what this is or what it does. Tried looking online, but no luck. It sits on top or some return pipes. There is a little pause/run lever on top. Thanks in advance. My kids think it's a flying saucer for the moles that end up...

What does everyone use to measure out bleach? I'd prefer not to eyeball.

Well, after plenty of advice here, this is what I came up with. Bought it at the dollar store, used my wife's measuring cup with water to measure and make marks and so far it's working fine. Don't worry, the bottom was green when I bought it, it's not some weird reaction to bleach. Thanks...

Pool pump/motor not working, urgent help needed

I had the same sound a couple weeks back and it turned out that my centrifugal switch was stuck. I have a Hayward Super II Pump, so I am not sure what yours looks like behind the back cover. I am not a pump mechanic, I just tried this and it worked for me so no guarantees. First make sure the...

What does everyone use to measure out bleach? I'd prefer not to eyeball.

Thanks everyone, that all makes sense. I guess I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some special piece of equipment I was missing. I'm sure if I go to Leslie's they will have something overpriced for me to use that will do the same thing as a Wal-Mart special. Kinda like I used to use an...

What does everyone use to measure out bleach? I'd prefer not to eyeball.

This might have an obvious answer, but I don't know it. When adding smaller amounts of bleach to the pool, do you guys measure it first or just eyeball it? For instance the bleach comes in 121 oz jugs and I need to add 2 Qts, 6 oz. Is there a recommended measuring pitcher to buy? I've seen...

Just Signed Up, Got the Crazy looks at Costco Yesterday!

Good Morning everyone. Well I switched out some water yesterday and let the filter do it's thing overnight. Just to recap, my CYA was 80 Sunday morning and my FC was 38 (after adding 11 jugs of bleach to increase from .6). I took roughly 25% of the water out and now the CYA is at 70 (any drop...

Just Signed Up, Got the Crazy looks at Costco Yesterday!

As yippeeskipee suggested, I agreed i should switch out some water. First I vacuumed to waste, then pumped it out. Took about 1/4 out, it's refilling now. Lets see how that effects the CYA. As much as I enjoy being looked at as a serial killer when I shop clorox in bulk, I'd rather use...

Just Signed Up, Got the Crazy looks at Costco Yesterday!

Thanks for the welcome and quick replies. Well after adding the Clorox last night, I just took a reading this morning. My FC was 38 (I was shooting for 31) after adding the 11 --121 oz bottles of clorox. My PH was at least 8 (indicator on kit was maxed out). My TA was over 700 (is that...

Just Signed Up, Got the Crazy looks at Costco Yesterday!

Hey Everyone, I'm just getting on board now. Got my K2006 test kit this week, took the cover off Saturday and got my first readings yesterday. My free chlorine was at 0.6 and my CYA was at 80. So my calculations were to add 11 (121 Ounce) Costco size jugs of Clorox to shock to FC 31...
